Let's strengthen Maine's economy
Maine has a shrinking workforce, loss of good-paying jobs, declining wages, higher taxes and higher cost of living.
One way to address our state’s demographic crisis is to focus on attracting young workers back to Maine. The other, of course, is to keep young people from leaving in the first place.
Maine needs skilled workers, educated for future jobs.
Maine’s economy is stagnant. In fact, it’s the slowest-growing economy in the nation. That means we’re losing good-paying jobs, and our workforce is shrinking.
Places with more educated people generate more quality jobs. Educated people are more successful and create more jobs.
Maine’s educational system needs to ensure we will have enough quality, well-trained workers ready for the jobs we want to grow here in the future.
As the workforce continues to evolve, it’s more important than ever for workers to have the skills they need to succeed. The Alliance for Maine supports workforce training and education for workers of all ages.
It’s no secret that Maine is struggling to compete. Our high taxes, high energy costs, and high healthcare costs make it hard for businesses to thrive.
